At K9 Heights Dog training, individuals will be responsible for attaining a dog on their own. It is recommended that you contact K9 Heights prior to purchasing an animal for service work and allow us to perform a behavioral evaluation in order to help you obtain a dog of the proper temperament, breed, size, and age to meet your needs.
What’s included in the Service Dog Program?
At K9 Heights Dog training we strive to help service dogs and handlers thrive. The service dog program for K9 Heights starts with a temperament and behavioral evaluation to see if the dog is suited for the job.
Over 6 months of intensive training and living with K9 Heights trainers, dogs are taught fundamental and advanced obedience skills, like those included in the Canine Good Citizenship tests. This ensures that they behave professionally in public settings. During their training with K9 Heights service dog candidates are also trained in the tasks tailored to the handler to help mitigate their individual disability.
The K9 Heights Commitment
At K9 Heights we believe service dogs are a lifelong commitment and a tool to help a handler regain their independence. With service dogs, one plus one does not equal two, it equals one. The dogs should be able to anticipate and meet the handler’s needs.
Service dogs can be trained to help with a variety of disabilities, some of which are:
- Mobility/ Brace and Balance
- Diabetic Alert
- Syncope Response
- Item Retrieval
The Americans with Disability Act of 1990 protects the service dog handler’s right to a service dog as an assistive tool to mitigate disabilities. Service dogs must be task trained to mitigate a disability and have impeccable manners. If a service dog is disruptive in public a business may ask for the dog to be removed from the premises. Because of these policies, a service dog’s training is important to insure that this does not happen when a handler needs access to their dog.

K9 Heights Dog Training Testimonial
“The best! Opie’s time with K9 Heights has helped him to grow into the perfect service dog. Through private lessons and his Board & Train, Opie has become a calm dog. He has learned to do many tasks to support me through my daily life, and proper service dog behavior while in public and at home. I am so thankful for all their help and the ongoing support they give me every single day, no matter what time it is. K9 Heights are people you can trust, who will always be there for you, and will go above and beyond to train you and your dog. They are truly amazing, thoughtful, knowledgeable, and the kindest people.”

“K9 Heights Dog Training trained a service dog for me. They truly care about the dogs they work with and it’s clear to see that Rachel and Eric are passionate about what they do. Their training for my service dog has helped me to regain my life with new independence that I haven’t had in a long time. K9 Heights has been incredibly patient with me as I learn how to navigate life as a service dog handler, as well as the fact that they have taken the best care of my girl. I wouldn’t take my dog anywhere else.”
